Age 6 - 14 years
When children begin this stage of
their education they enter into a unique relationship with their
teacher. Together they will progress through the school for the next
eight years, the teacher guiding them for two hours each day in the
"Main Lessons" and often in other subjects too.
This continuous relationship creates
a strong sense of security, trust, understanding and confidence.
The basic skills of writing, reading
and numeracy are fostered within the imaginative context of the Steiner
curriculum.
The whole child, not just the
intellect, is involved in learning. A pictorial and artistic approach is
adopted for all subjects, including science and mathematics.
Every day begins with a main lesson:
in-depth study of a subject over 3 or 4 weeks. This leads to greater
concentration and a more unified and wider understanding of the subject.
